Police survey to focus on drivers

PUNE, April 21: With the psychological status of a driver emerging as a prominent cause for a road mishap, the police has launched a survey in five districts of the state to study the phenomenon and take subsequent measures.

The survey, being carried out in Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur districts, has revealed that most of the road accidents which took place during the last three months were caused by the psychological status of drivers, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur Range) Raj Khilnani while speaking to the reporters here today.

As a part of the survey, Khilnani said, the constabulary from these five districts has been provided with printed questioners about the psychological status of drivers before, during and after the mishaps. They have been directed to get these questioners filled from the drivers immediately after the accidents, he added.

Besides, Khilnani said, various measures are being adopted to increase the efficiency of the policemen in these five districts. He said the policemen have been directed to give top priority to the cases wherein the complainant claims constantly ongoing harassment over a prolonged period. The policemen have also been directed to take regular follow ups of cases in settled by the complainant and the respondent mutually, he stated.

Adequate measures are also being adopted to ensure that the complainants receive proper treatment by the policemen, Khilnani said. To start with, he added, the policemen have been directed to offer a chair and a glass of water to the complainant immediately after he reaches the police station.
