High Court summons Amreli DSP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, April 21: A Gujarat High Court division bench of Chief Justice K. Sreedharan and Justice A.R. Dave has directed Amreli district superintendent of police (DSP) to be present in court on April 24, 1998, and show cause why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for failing to comply with the court's order.

The court on this April 3 had directed the Amreli DSP to file a detailed reply on the steps taken by the police on the basis of the statement given by petitioner Bharat Mochi while undergoing treatment at Rajkot government hospital. But no affidavit has been filed so far.

While passing the order, the court observed that it failed to understand the ``callous indifference'' shown by the officer. While Amee Yajnik appeared for the state government, Shilpa Unwalla appeared for the petitioner.
