BTI to train workers

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, April 21: Gujarat has been selected by British Training International (BTI) of UK for imparting vocational qualifications (VQs) training to industrial workers in seven key sectors on a pilot basis.

This was announced at a meeting on VQs arranged by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Monday. The BTI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CII for implementing this training programme based on a British model. The CII is likely to receive State government's help in the form of infrastructural support for the programme. The areas where the programme will be implemented, probably from September, include textiles, chemicals, instrumentation and telecom, civil engineering and construction, mechanical engineering industries, electrical and electronics. Minister for Labour and Employment Ashok Bhatt indicated the government's keenness to cooperate with the BTI-CII initiative on improving VQs of industrial workers on lines of national vocational qualifications (NVQs) of Britain. He said the government could even change the syllabi of ITIs in Gujarat in consultation with BTI to make them compatible with changing technological requirements.
