SURAT, April 21: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Rajendra Singh came down heavily on the successive rules at the Centre by the Congress party, and dubbed March 15 a ``watershed in India's history'' as it was the day the Bharatiya Janata Party rode to power.He was addressing a meeting of RSS volunteers at Umiya Dham in Varachha on Sunday evening.
Though the RSS chief, popularly known as Rajju Bhaiya, generally avoids direct references to political parties, he minced no words in criticising the oldest national party while openly advocating the cause of the BJP.
If the king of England could be the `Defender of the Faith' and if Italy could have a Christian Party, and both could be considered secular states, why could not India have a party advocating Hindutva, he asked, adding that no one raised eyebrows over countries ruled by Muslims or Christians.
The minorities had had no cause to fear from the BJP's rise to power, Singh said, pointing out that all the important posts in the country were open to everyone.
The country had not been able to come out of ``mental slavery'' to the British as was apparent from the importance given to the English language, Singh said. Archaic laws and an ancient judicial system still continued to be honoured in the country, he observed.
