St Thomas camp

A record number of over 50 entries for football have been received for the three-week long St Thomas Sports Talent Centre coaching camp to be held from April 23 to May 9. The other disciplines include athletics, volleyball, handball and basketball.

Football trainees will be imparted training by former International and Tatas left-winger Tony Martins. He will be assisted by Trevor Carvalho, S Naidu and Anil Netto.

The athletes will have the benefit of training through NIS-trained National coach Vasant Kumar, who will beassisted by Dayanand Kumar, Gopal Kidiyoor and M A Khan. National referee and coach Ravi Gurjar will be in charge of coaching the volleyball trainees. Wiron Vaz, director of the camp, will see to the overall activities of the camp.

Suburban skating

The Mumbai Suburban Roller Skating Association will be conducting their 9th District championship from April 25 to 26. Umpiring coaching camp

The Thane Chapter of the Association of Cricket Umpires, Mumbai, jointly with Mulund Gymkhana will be conducting a free cricket umpiring coaching camp at Mulund Gymkhana from April 26- June 21, 1998. The classes will be held on every Sunday between 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

Sports meet

The Shiv Sena Ward number 84 would be conducting a three-day sports meet that forms a part of their Shivaji Jayanti celebrations. The feature event of the meet that commences from April 24 is a floodlit cricket tournament.The cricket tournament offers a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and the Meenatai Thackeray rolling trophy for the winners. The St Xavier's Ex-students Association Sports Club (Vile Parle, West) Rink football tournament will be held from May 4 to 15. They will be also conducting a floodlit tournament for those above 40 years. The entry for both events is Rs 300.
