NEW DELHI, April 22: No permanent solution for the flyash generated by the I.P. Thermal Power plants seems to be at hand. The proposal to make flyash bricks is lost amidst procedural delays and the Delhi Vidyut Board has come up with a new list of excuses.Though tenders were floated months back to hire contractors, it has not yielded any results yet. This time around, the delay has been caused by non-availability of land for the brick factory.
``We have written to the Urban Development Ministry requesting them for allocation of land for the brick factory. Unless the D.D.A or M.C.D allocate land, there is nothing we can do,'' DVB public relations officer Jagdish Kapoor said. Asked about the deadline by which the land would most probably be allocated, he said there was no such deadline and it was impossible to have one anyway. Meanwhile, all the DVB had managed to do is increase the number of sprinklers at the I.P Thermal Power plant.
``This is a temporary solution. With such strong winds blowing these days, just sprinkling water may not suffice at all,''Central Pollution Control Board chairperson Dilip Biswas said. DVB claims to have come up with a new proposal today: ``We have instructed the PWD to cover the truckloads of flyash being transported to the dumping grounds and the ash lying at the approach road site with cloth''.
GK II mandir commercial complex sealed
Officials of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) sealed the commercial complex of the Sanatan Dharam Sabha Mandir in Greater Kailash-II this afternoon. Deliverance for the residents of the area came almost a year after they began fighting for their cause. An earlier Express Newsline report had highlighted the problems faced by them due to the conferences and weddings organised in the Mandir complex. Loud noise caused by the frequent weddings, constant whirring of generators and traffic jams, were just some of their problems. The residents had approached the LG's special cell for help, but had almost given up hope. According to Madhu Sudan Rao, SHO, C R Park: ``Two buildings which had around 40-50 guestrooms and a banquet hall was sealed. The rest of the temple has not been touched in any way.''
