The swadeshi politician may not have a problem with appearing on Rupert Murdoch's Star News Channel, but Prasar Bharati CEO S S Gill has decided to take the media baron head-on. With a budget provided by Doordarshan, he has asked self-confessed Murdoch-baiter Ramesh Sharma to do a two-part programme on the Australian-American's "attempts to control our minds".

Music channel war hots up
The war of the music channels has finally started hurting below the belt. Channel [V] is enraged at what it says is a `cheap gimmick' by arch-rival MTV to take the fun out of a party hosted jointly by [V] and music company BMG-Crescendo. The party, held on Wednesday evening at the nj-Jazz By the Bay at Marine Drive, was to launch Dooba Dooba, the video of new band Silk Route.
Little man Annan woos Hollywood, for a change
Looking to shed some glamour on the United Nations, Secretary-General Kofi Annan went to Hollywood on Tuesday to recruit celebrities to champion for his organisation's missions. "I know that when an artist speaks up to safeguard the environment or to crusade for civil rights or to fight the scourge of drugs ... the world sits up and listens," Annan said.

Beed being decked up for Marathi literary meet
They are coming in droves to the pilgrimage town of Parli-Vajinath in Beed district, for the biggest Marathi literary event of the year - the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan opening on April 24. More than 50,000 people from all over Maharashtra and neighbouring states are converging for the convention, hoping to steep themselves in cerebral pursuits for two whole days.
