League plans backward, minority parties' front

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
KOZHIKODE, April 24: The Indian Union Muslim League has decided to work for a common front of backward and minority parties in a bid to fight the twin threats of fascism and terrorism looming large over the country.

The working committee of the party which met recently, unveiled the decision through its political resolution adopted here on Thursday.

The resolution felt that the only way to stop fascist forces was to forge a united front of all backward and minority sections with other secular and democratic parties.

The only reason why the BJP Government has set aside its anti-minority and extremist policies at the moment was its lack of sufficient support and inherent compulsions for putting up with a big coalition, the party felt.

The moment the BJP gets a clear majority this would change and it would definitely implement its anti-minority agenda, it said.

The League also felt that the massive increase in its vote base in the last Lok Sabha election had proved the fact that the party had been ableto withstand all the challenges it faced in the past and regain the confidence of minorities as well as large sections of people from other communities.

It was a recognition of the genuine secular credentials of the Muslim League which had stood for communal amity during its five decades of existence, the resolution said.
