Anita Krishnan, who has been performing well for Savio, was once again the key, but Gymkhana girls bottled her up very well. Despite this Anita scored 27 of the 37 points her team scored.

Gymkhana, who were trailing 22-27 at half-time, used man-to-man pressure in the second half and hustled their opponents with their tight defence. In clutch situations, Gymkhana girls committed fouls and Anita scored six points through free-throws.

In the boys section, Green Star, Solapur were off to a flying start beating Agnels Gymkhana 62-15. With State players in their ranks, Green Star were far too superior to Agnels. Daniel Kamble -- the speedy ball-handler was unstoppable. He had plenty of assists to the tallerplayers Waheed and Sadat, who besides doing well on the offensive board, collected rebounds with ease. Little Ramesh Chilwari was a livewire forward, going for many fast breaks.

In another boys Group-C match, hosts Indian Gymkhana were the surprise winners over Wellingdon YMCA 54-33.

The Indian Gymkhana boys were fast to the surprise of Wellingdon YMCA. Sachin Rao, Tejas Arya and Rohan Kumar of Gymkhana often outpaced their rivals and the former backed his speed with his excellent ball control.

Indian Gymkhana and Wellingdon YMCA have qualified from this group for the knock-out. Ghatkopar YMCA and NNH have also qualified from the Group-B for the knock-out.
