Defeat ends Larsen bid

REUTERS
SOFIA, April 24: Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen, bidding to become the first four-time European badminton champion, suffered a shock semifinal defeat today while world champion Peter Rasmussen pulled out injured.

Hoyer-Larsen, the 32 year-old Olympic gold medallist, lost 15-6, 15-6 to fellow Dane Kenneth Jonassen.

Gade Christensen, the world number two, was handed his place in the final when Rasmussen withdrew with an ankle injury that could harm his Thomas Cup chances.
