Bajaj Auto-Expo' 98 opens
The three-day Bajaj Auto Expo'98 which opened here today unveiled a new range of products for various segments of the two wheeler market. It was inaugurated by Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh at Parade Grounds, Sector 17. He expressed satisfaction that Indian companies like Bajaj were going ahead with advanced technology, which enabled India to compete with the multinationals. RPO report
The Regional Passport Office has processed all applications which were submitted till February 9 and were found complete in all respects, according to the weekly report on the status of passport applications for the week ending April 17.
Devtional songs
An evening of devotional songs will be held tomorrow with Sunil Dhyani at Tagore Theatre. The artiste's ten cassettes have already hit the stands. Hailing from the city, Sunil Dhyani has already won awards from various academies.
Bhajan's press meet
Former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal will address media persons at a "Meet the Press" programme at the Chandigarh Press Club here at 11 am tomorrow.
Water shortage
The residents of first and second floors of Sector 44-C have complained of acute water shortage for the last three days. Sector 44-C Residents Welfare Association president Satish Kumar Sharma while seeking an early redressal of their problems, has appealed to the Administration to make proper arrangements in this regard.
NIIFT strike
The chain hunger strike by the students of NIIFT in protest against the fee hike entered its 19th day today. The striking students met Punjab Industries Minister Sucha Singh at his residence and apprised him of the students' problems. The minister has reportedly assured the students that their genuine demands would be met.
Welfare scheme
PGI Employees Union Benevolent fund, a scheme for the welfare of the employees was inaugurated by the local MP, Satya Pal Jain here today at the PGI. Under the scheme the contributions of the employees, which would be on monthly basis, would be refunded on their retirement.
Power shutdown
Residents of Sector 21 have been without power supply since 10 pm last night. There was no indication of resumption of power supply till about 8 pm.The Superintending Engineer, Electricity (Ops) Circle, P.S. Chawla, when contacted said that the disruption was due to some fault in the cables. He added that the problem was only in that sector and supply was expected to be restored "soon".
Ambulance donated
An ambulance-cum-funeral van was donated by the State Bank of India to Indian Red Cross Society UT at Karuna Sadan here today. Chief general manager, SBI K K Narula handed over the keys of ambulance to Jagdish Sagar, Advisor to the UT Administration.
