CLTA officials help avert major fire

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, April 24: The synthetic tennis courts on the Eastern side of the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association Complex in Sector 10 had a narrow escape from being melted by a fire in the `bamboo forest' in the Leisure Valley this evening. As the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, no damage to the courts was done. A timely action by CLTA general manager Kailash Nath to inform the Fire Brigade in Sector 11 also prevented the fire from spreading. Three fire tenders reached the spot within a few minutes and the fire was brought under control.

The CLTA staff and the trainees, armed with branches of the trees, also gave a helping hand to the Fire Brigade. Due to fire, the training activities on all courts were disrupted for more than one hour.
