Releasing BJP report a cover-up bid by CM: Jaya

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHENNAI, April 27: AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha today flayed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for releasing a `so-called white paper' in the State Assembly last week which alleged that the Al-Umma enjoyed AIADMK's support. The so-called white paper was prepared by the BJP top leaders in 1995 after inquiring into the 1993 bomb blast in the RSS office in Chennai.

In a four-page statement here, she said the release of the 1995 report by Karunanidhi now only showed that he was frantic to ``cover up his mistake'' She said, it was only ``an attempt to divert attention from the blunders'' committed by the Karunanidhi government as it failed to take suitable steps despite getting prior information about Coimbatore blasts.

As per the report circulated last week to the MLAs, Al-Umma, now an outlawed fundamentalist outfit, enjoyed various political parties support including AIADMK leaders. The BJP delegation headed by Sikandar Bakht had visited Chennai on July 29 and 30, 1995 and submitted its findings tothe BJP leadership. The AIADMK supremo said the statement that the AIADMK gave support to Islamic extremists then as alleged in the BJP report, was made ``without realising the true position of obtaining them''.

She reminded that she had ordered a CBI probe into the RSS office blast incident. She said it was a well-known that fundamentalist and extremist organisations like Al-Umma had included her name in their `hit-list' because of her firm action against them.
