No quick solution to Indo-China row: Fu
Hours before General Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army began his visit to New Delhi, a middle-aged Tibetan attempted to immolate himself in protest not only against Chinese atrocities in Tibet but also against the local police's violent show of strength. Gen Fu Quanyou met Prime Minister A B Vajpayee for half-an-hour yesterday evening, where it was pointed out to him that bilateral relations could only get better on the basis of mutual respect and recognition.

Pak courts freeze Bhutto family assets
In a major setback to Benazir Bhutto, two Pakistani courts have ordered the freezing of all movable and immovable assets, bank accounts, lockers and other businesses of the former premier and those of her relatives within and outside Pakistan.

Gerry Adams, Blair peace talks begin
Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams began talks yesterday with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the premier's office ahead of a May 22 referendum on the Northern Ireland peace deal. It is the fourth time Adams, whose party is the political wing of the Irish Republican Army, has been to Downing Street since December last year.

Gunmen massacre 21 in PoK village
Unknown gunmen slaughtered 21 people in a remote village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Several gunmen roared into Bindala Samahani, some 275 km southeast of the Kashmir capital of Muzzafarabad and massacred two unrelated families. Another three people were injured.
