  I'll be back: Ghulam Ali
For Pakistani ghazal singer, Ghulam Ali, Sunday's ugly incident is a non-event. The drama, which saw a mob of angry Shiv Sainiks storming the stage at Hotel Juhu Centaur and led to the cancellation of the maestro's performance, has also left Ali unfazed.
Organisers wary after Ghulam Ali experience
Alarmed over the disruption of the Ghulam Ali concert, organisers of a concert to be performed by Malayalam singer K J Yesudas at Don Bosco school, Matunga, on May 1, have moved both the High Court and City Civil and Session Court to thwart any such attempts. The People's Arts Centre has requested the courts for a 48-hour notice if any application is made regarding the matter.

Jasraj's pleasant tour to Pak
Pandit Jasraj was moved beyond words when at his recital in Lahore the audience arose raving: Panditji, aapne gaake Allah ke darshan karaye, (you have given us a glimpse of Allah with your song). It was an eye-opening visit for the veteran singer who had performed in Lahore and Islamabad on January 24 and 25 this year.
Govt to launch Mai Marathi channel
The Mai Marathi channel, to be launched by the Maharashtra government on May 1 to promote Marathi language and culture, will be headed by the former chairman of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Ravi Gupta. Gupta's appointment, in spite of the Shiv Sena's demand that there should be more Marathi officials in Doordarshan, is widely perceived as a shift from the government's policy to provide an impetus to Maharashtrians.

Savage Garden & some obscene dilemma
Savage Garden-if the name is any indication then this would be just the grist for the Script and Stage Performances Scrutiny Board's Morality Mill. The committee, reactivated after Minister for Cultural Affairs' Pramod Navalkar's strictures on rock music is at present busy pouring over the lyrics of the Aussie boy band that is scheduled to play in town on May 2 at the SNDT Grounds.
Roving Eye
Flying high -- You all know that Love and Longing in Bombay won the regional (Eurasia) 1998 Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book. Vikram Chandra shares the space with three other winners, for the regions of Africa; Caribbean and Canada; and SE Asia and North Pacific. Well, he has a lot more to look forward to than just a cash prize.
