Top seed Swapnil advances

MUMBAI, April 28: The top five seeds, Swapnil Shah, Sanjay Karandikar, Madan Bagaitkar, Vilesh Bhat and Charudatta Jadhav, all of Maharashtra, sailed through the first round with easy victory in the opening round of the All-India Open Chess Tournament for the blind at the Andheri Sports Complex here today. Swapnil Shah defeated Laxmi Mathur of West Bengal while Sanjay Karandikar, with black pieces scored over Shefali Mahato .Other results (1st round): Shefali Mahato (WB) lost to Sanjay Karandikar (Mah); Madan Bagaitkar (Mah) bt Karuna Adhikari (WB); Barnali Kar (WB) lost to Vilesh Bhat (Mah); Charudatta Jadhav (Mah) bt Rina Kar (WB); Suvarna Mondal (WB) lost to Shirish Patil (Mah); Joseph D'Mello (Mah) bt Jutika Mondal (WB); Lavaxiya Mayeesi (WB) lost to Rajesh Rajput (Guj); Suryakant Raut (Mah) bt Bhupender Singh (Delhi); Suhaschandra Panu (Har) lost to Kartik Damle (Mah).
