The painted wordJangarh Singh Shayam, an artist from the Pardhan tribe in Madhya Pradesh, is showing his works in the city currently. The Pardhans are traditionally bards and the songs of their ancestors and God often take form through paintings and carvings. Shyam's oil canvases depict flowers, animals, birds and people in colour dots and flat bright hues. His works are priced between Rs 4,000 and Rs 38,000.

Water colour
Sharat Kumar, a former Navy official, is fascinated with a small brook in the Kumaon region of the Himalayas. His camera has captured the beauty of this brook that runs by the Jageshwar temple in the midst of a deodar forest. Titled `The Brook at Jageshwar', the pictures focus on the natural arrangement of rocks, the flow of water over them and its changing look with the breaking daylight. Kumar's lens has left human figures out of his field.
Man-made objects too do notfind a place in his focus. "I felt that they interfere with the sacred quality of the stones and water and dilute the purity of presentation," he says. One of the photographs on exhibit was awarded the first prize by the Sahitya Kala Parishad.

Producer Rasik Dave in association with J Abbas-Kaustubh presents a Gujarati social suspense, Takdeer No Takajo. Spanning over 35 years, it revolves around a "passionate lover" and a crime that slowly unfolds over the years. Written by Vilopan Desai and directed by Amit Divetia, the play features Rasik Dave, Ketki Dave, Hiten Kumar and Kiran Bhatt.

Ramesh Deshmane's work stands out for its clear lines. A Mumbai based artists, he has worked in ink, charcol, acrylic and oil but oft late he has been concentrating on perfecting the use of colour on a textured base. Hislatest exhibition, Dance and Music repeats his favourite motif of `man-woman relationship'. His works have a happy feel to them with their bright colours and smooth rhythms.
