Dalit youth victimised, paraded on streets

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
JAIPUR, April 28: In a gory incident, seven members of a family belonging to a dominant community at Nakasauda village in Rajasthan's Dholpur district forcibly pierced the nostril of a 26-year-old Dalit youth with a packing-needle and drew a string through his nose. Then holding the string like reins, they paraded him on the streets, and later tied him to a peg meant for cattle on Saturday.

The young man's nightmare did not end there. For hours, the whole village mutely witnessed the gory episode till a police party intervened following a telephone call from an unknown eyewitness.

Apparently, Rameshwar Jatav, became a victim of this `high-class' atrocity because of his refusal to sell bidis on credit to Vasudev, village sarpanch Janak Singh Gujar's newphew. According to Jatav, Vasudev owed him around Rs 150 and so insisted upon its payment before giving him anymore credit. Vasudev, according to Jatav, felt slighted at this demand.
