Ambala-Chandigarh highway four-laning sought

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMBALA, April 28: The Ambala Cantonment Assembly constituency legislator Anil Vij has urged the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana, Parkash Singh Badal and Bansi Lal, respectively, to initiate steps to widen the Ambala-Chandigarh highway and construct a over-bridge on the rail line near Derabassi to cope with the increased traffic pressure.

The MLA in a memorandum addressed to both the CMs has drawn their attention towards the congestion on the highway leading to accidents and traffic jams. Thousands of buses plied on this highway, he said, and added that the VIP vehicles aggravated the problems of the ordinary traffic.

He said that the fast developing industries between Ambala and Derabassi were another cause of the traffic congestion as thousands of their trucks plied on this road everyday. Vij has especially drawn the attention of the two CMs towards the construction of a railway fly-over near the Derabassi railway crossing.
