Arrested girl is not a human bomb: SSP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AMRITSAR, April 28: Amritsar Police today denied the press reports that the girl arrested from Jallianwala Bagh during the Prime Minister's visit here yesterday, was a human bomb.

SSP Paramjit Singh Gill in a press release here said the police had arrested the girl at about 10.30 am on suspicion. She was wearing a police uniform.

Gill said she had been identified as Rani, daughter of Channan Singh, resident of Khairdinke village near Doraha in Ludhiana district. She was married to Rajwant Singh of Naushehra Pannuan and had recently been divorced. The SSP said she belonged to a very poor family and was mentally disturbed. As she is uneducated and unemployed, she used to wear the uniform of a police constable to avail free travel in state transport buses. On that day she had come to Jallianwala Bagh to meet the Prime Minister to seek a job for herself.

The SSP said that interrogation had revealed her innocence. She had been booked under Section 171 IPC for wearing a police uniform.
