CRPF men allegedly run over man, dump body near Rohini

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 28: A head Constable and a driver from the CRPF have been arrested after they allegedly knocked over a 60-year-old man, took him on the bus on the pretext of taking him to hospital and then dumped his body near Rohini.

Sixty-year-old Om Prakash had been running a small stall outside Azadpur Sabzi Mandi, where people weigh themselves after paying a small fee. He would leave his house at 7 a.m. and return around 4 p.m.

On April 23, when he did not get back home, his family began to get worried. His son , Vinod Kumar with some relatives and friends went to the mandi to see if they could locate him.

At the mandi, traders told him that early that morning, a bus, from the CRPF school in Rohini had run over his father and he had sustained serious injuries.

A crowd had gathered, following the incident. The driver of the bus and his assistant told the assembled crowd that they would take his body to the hospital, get him medical attention and even take him home. Seeing that the bus belonged to the CRPF, the crowd thought nothing further of the matter and assumed that Om Prakash had been taken to hospital.

Vinod Kumar rushed to the Azadpur Mandi police post to get further information about his father. The police there told him that they had neither seen nor heard anything about the incident. He checked various nearby-hospitals but again drew a blank.

The next day, he went to see if there was any news of his father in the Azadpur mandi police post. There he learnt, that a body, fitting his father's description had been recovered in Rohini. He went to the Sector-16 police post and recognised the weighing machine from his father's shop. He also identified his father's body in the mortuary. Vinod Kumar registered an FIR at the Adarsh Nagar police station under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender). The police later arrested the driver of the bus -- Vijay Pal under Sections 304 A and 279 and his assistant -- Head Constable Balbir Singh under Section 201.
