Sukh Ram summoned by BJP

NEW DELHI: Sukh Ram, Deputy Chief Minister in the BJP-led government in Himachal Pradesh, has been summoned to Delhi tomorrow by the BJP leadership to clarify his position following President K R Narayanan's permission to prosecute him in the multi-crore telecom scam case. Sources said that the BJP was likely to try and persuade Sukh Ram to resign from the Cabinet. BJP national secretary Narendra Modi, who is in charge of Himachal affairs, said that Sukh Ram had been requested to come to Delhi for discussions and to make his stand clear in view of the party's commitment to provide a corruption-free government.

Tension over farmer's death

PUNE: Tension prevailed on the outskirts of Yemat township, about 45 kms from Pune, as an irate mob attacked the police station there after a sub-inspector shot dead a farmer mistaking him to be a robber today. A 25-year-old man was injured when police opened fire to disperse angry villagers who attacked the police station and settwo jeeps ablaze and overturned a mini bus.
