`Reporter' nabbed

PUNE, April 29: Crime Detection Branch has arrested Prakash Tulshiram Aadhav alias P K Pawar on charges of impersonation.

A history sheeter, Aadhav posed as either a Central Bureau of Investigation officer or Press Trust of India reporter and used to blackmail officers working in government departments such as MSEB, Irrigation, Public Works, municipal councils etc. He allegedly duped officers in Pune city and district, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli and Beed.

Acting on information passed to it about Aadhav, the Crime Detection Branch arrested him near Pune Railway Station on April 18. Aadhav was found to be in possession of fake identity cards of CBI and PTI.

The police searched his residence at Bhosale Chawl in Sant Tukaram Nagar and recovered incriminating documents. The modus operadi of Aadhav included claiming to have some secret information about them and would threaten to divulge the same through PTI if the officers did not comply with his demand for money. Identifying some officers harassed by Aadhav, the police have registered complaints in Bundgarden, Kothrud and Chatuhshringi police stations. So far 4 cases have been registered against Aadhav.
