3 beat driver to death, escape with his vehicle

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, April 29: Two women and a man intercepted a car on the national highway in the district and bashed the driver to death, before escaping in the victim's car on Tuesday night, a case registered in the Palsana police station of the district said. According to information, car driver Kantilal Vedubhai was intercepted by two women and a man just beside the Gujarati primary school at Kadodara Char Rasta on the National Highway in Palsana taluka of the district. The three asked Vedubhai to get out of the car after which they bashed him up till he fell unconscious before escaping in his Maruti car (GCX 9511).

Some people standing in the vicinity informed the police, who took Vedubhai to the Sanjeevani hospital but he died on the way.

Witnesses later told the police that the three were accusing Kantilal of being a thief while beating him and he was denying the allegations.

One Kautikbhai Bagle, a resident of the same area, lodged a complaint in the police station stating that the two women were between 30 and 35 and the man seemed to be around 30. PSI Subhe Singh Yadav of the LCB (district HQ) told Express Newsline that this was for the first time that women were involved in a highway murder in the district. ``We have sent the car number to the RTO to verify its ownership and also alerted the police to trace the car'', he said.

The car number was given to the police by eye witnesses. A case of murder according to section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and investigations are on, Yadav added.
