A new strategic dialogue
America's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Bill Richardson, accompanied by Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs Karl Inderfurth, undertook a whistle-stop tour of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka this month. Foreign Secretary K. Raghunath left for Washington on April 26 as a quick follow-up.

Rediscovering agricultural India
After the early seventies when India stopped depending on large scale grain imports, agriculture ceased to be a salon subject. But according to a recent expert report, there are 19 countries in the world where "food" for a salon party even today cannot be purchased from "market supplies" and needs to be procured with special "influence".
