Chinks appear to have developed in the AIADMK-led front in Tamil Nadu on Jayalalitha's demand for dismissal of DMK Government with one of its constituents Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) today disfavouring imposition of President's rule in the State. PMK president S Ramadoss said his party was not in favour of invoking Article 356 in Tamil Nadu but favoured the Karunanidhi government resigning on its own.

Union Home Minister L K Advani has said that the Communist parties had no right to criticise the present government's bid to seek review of the Constitution. Advani added that it was, in fact, ironical that the Communist parties saw in the bid "an attempt to finish democracy" for the same parties had supported Emergency Rule.
Vajpayee chides Shiv Sena
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee yesterday disapproved disruption of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali's musical programme by Shiv Sena activists on Sunday night. The meeting of North Eastern Council (NEC) states has resolved the issue of the council's reorganisation be taken up by the concerned Chief Ministers during their meeting with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on May eight next.
