Stalemate continues in Nashik onion market

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Nashik, May 3: Onion auctions at the Lasalgaon marketyard remain suspended with the Agricultural Produce Market Committee demanding a written assurance from traders that they would not resort to flash strikes in future.

APMC chairperson and local Shiv Sena MLA Kalyanrao Patil says auctions will not resume till the committee receives such an undertaking.

Traders, agitating the state government's decision to impose brokerage, weighment and handling charges on them, resorted to a flash strike last week and threatened an indefinite agitation if the proposal was not withdrawn. They subsequently backed down following a written undertaking from the government that the move would be shelved.

However, at a function to inaugurate a sub-market at Vinchur, Patil said he was adamant on keeping the Lasalgaon marketyard closed till the traders tendered a written assurance on future flash strikes.
