Housewife found dead

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, May 3: A teen-aged girl from Laxminagar slums in Yerwada, who had married an autorickshaw driver from Wanowrie Bazaar area four months back, was yesterday found dead at her residence under mysterious circumstances. The death of 18-year-old Vidya Gaikwad is linked with dowry demands by her husband and in-laws, claims the newly wed's mother Surekha More in a complaint lodged with Wanowrie police.

Acting on the complaint, police have arrested Vidya's husband Pramod, a 22-year-old autorickshaw driver, and filed a case against her mother-law Vimal. However, they failed to explain the circumstances in which Vidya died.

Vidya was taken to Sassoon Hospital by Vimal and Pramod only to be proclaimed ``dead on arrival,'' last afternoon. The duo claimed to have found Vidya lying still at their house. However, they failed to explain the circumstances in which Vidya lost her consciousness.

According to the complaint, Pramod and Laxmibai were harassing Vidya over the demand that she should bring money from her parents.
