PUNE, May 3: Dr Vijay Bhatkar, executive director, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has proceeded on an 18-month sabbatical leave from May 1 to pursue his project on reaching education to all homes. Dr R K Arora, Senior Director, Department of Electronics, will officiate.Speaking with The Indian Express on Sunday, Bhatkar who was with the C-DAC since the launching of its first mission in 1988 and developing the world's most powerful supercomputer, has different plans. Enthused by restructuring higher education, Bhatkar also is excited about reaching education to all homes.
``I will be travelling across India, and tying up with different academic organisations. It's an experiment and the idea has still to gain ground,'' says Bhatkar who will also utilise the leave to work on the multi-media Dnyaneshwari Mandir project at Alandi. Bhatkar however is quick to add that he will be at C-DAC as part of the Board of Advisors.
Only recently on its 11th foundation day on March 28 the C-DAC unveiled its PARAM 10000 supercomputer which can perform 100 Giga-flops mathematical operations per second. Such teraflop supercomputers have been built only by USA and Japan so far.
