`Abducted' cyclist traced to Apollo

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 3: The Malviya Nagar police have traced the 20-year-old cyclist, Jamal Ahmed, who was knocked down by a Maruti car in Khanpur last morning, to Apollo hospital. Residents of Suresh Bagh, where the youth hails from, had gone on a rampage and disrupted traffic following rumours that the driver of the Maruti car had abducted him. The local police resorted to a lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.

Subsequent investigations revealed the driver of the Maruti car was Sajeet Singh who used to live in Vasant Kunj, but had shifted elsewhere recently. As the police made further inquiries at various hospitals in the city, they found that Sajeet Singh had taken Jamal to Holy Angel hospital before shifting him to Apollo. While Jamal is reported to be out of danger, Sanjeet Singh has been booked for rash and negligent driving.

Jamal was on his way to a hardware training institute in Malviya Nagar on a bicycle, when he was hit from behind.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the incident occurred around 9 a.m. near a red light. They saw a red Maruti car knocking down the cyclist, injuring him seriously. Before passers-by could react, the driver of the Maruti car forced the cyclist inside the vehicle and sped away, leaving the bicycle behind.
