NEW DELHI, May 3: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly battered to death by her husband at village Khar in the Narela police station area this morning.The police said that Saroj Devi and her husband Brij Mohan, who is a truck driver, had frequent altercations over petty matters, but the one this morning proved to be fatal for the woman.The couple's 10-year-old daughter Sonia, who is the eldest of their three children, gave details of the incident to the police. She reportedly said that that her parents started quarrelling early this morning over money. Her father had asked her mother to give him some money from her savings, but Saroj Devi turned down his request.
Sonia said that the she was in the kitchen, when the quarrel started in the an adjoining room. Initially, she did not pay much attention as ``such quarrels were frequent among them'', but she did so after she heard her mother crying abnormally.
The crying suddenly stopped, and Sonia then heard her father locking the door and the leaving the house. She later reported the incident to her relatives who contacted the local police.
When the door was broken open, Saroj Devi was found lying on the floor. She was bleeding profusely from her head, and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that she was repeatedly struck on her head with a brick and some other blunt object. A case of murder has been registered and the police are trying to trace Brij Mohan who is absconding.
