Two detained for tearing up defence exam question paper

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 3: The North-West district police today detained two Combined Defence Services Examination (CDS) candidates after they reportedly tore up their question papers because these were printed in English.

The incident occurred this morning when the candidates -- Ram Rup and Mahesh -- were writing their second theory paper to qualify for the CDS. They suddenly got up from their seats at the examination centre in Senior Secondary School, Bharatnagar, and tore up their papers.

Invigilators inside the hall detained the youths immediately and handed them over to the police.

Subsequent investigations later revealed that Ram Rup is a Home Guard constable in Uttar Pradesh, while Mahesh works at a Mayur Vihar factory.

Both are also members of an organisation called Akhil Bhartiya Angrezi Anivarta Virodhi Sangh (ABAAVS). They had appeared for the examinations only to register their protest that the question papers for the CDS examination be printed only in Hindi.

Another member of the Akhil Bhartiya Angrezi Anivarta Virodhi Sangh, identified as Mukesh Jain, who was standing outside the examination centre was found carrying 52 identity cards for the examination.

The police were questioning the three ABAAVS members when this report was filed, and will register a case once investigations are completed. They are also ascertaining whether the identity cards found in Jain's possession are forged.
