Two cops booked

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, May 3: The local police have booked two policemen on the charges of harassing a Chandigarh based free-lancer and an advocate.

Cases have been registered against sub inspector Girdhara Singh and constable Baljit Singh at the civil lines police station.

Assistant Commissioner (Grievances) Amrit Kaur Gill, had earlier in an inquiry indicted the two for having allegedly harassed and tortured a Chandigarh based free-lancer Sanjiv Sharma, his father Chander Mani Lal, his friend Ranjiv Thakur and advocate Ajit Singh.

The incident pertains to September 21, 1996 when the four had come to the crime branch against women cell (CAW) here, in connection with a complaint lodged against Sanjiv by his wife Renu Sharma. However, on their way back, they were apprehended at Bahadurgarh and brought back to the CAW cell and reportedly thrashed. The advocate was let off, while a case under sections 107 151 of the Cr.PC. was registered against others.
