200 workers reinstated

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
NAHAN, May 3: Two hundred employees of the Steel Strips factory have been reinstated following assurance from the district administration that the factory would be supplied power as per the required capacity.Additional District Magistrate B. R. Bharti, Sirmaur, said the management had retrenched 300 workers after declaring lockout due to the short supply of power.

This lead to workers' agitation. following which the district administration and the labour department intervened. However, the factory management claimed that due to decline in production, the market share had fallen. The management maintained that as soon as the market share improved, the retrenched workers would be taken back.As per the agreement between the management and the labour union, in the presence of district conciliation officer, the management would pay Rs 5,000 each to the employee would has not taken back into service and the same would be deducted from his wages on reinstatement. The DCO said that labour representatives demanded that the sum be raised to Rs 10,000.
