Punjab Police entered the men's final of the 20th Federation Cup Volleyball Championships here last night defeating Indian Bank, Chennai, 15-8, 15-9, 15-11. It was the bankmen's atrocious retrievals and shabby defence that cost them the match in which the policemen gave a reasonably good show.

Kapil optimsitic
kapil Dev has predicted the present Indian cricket team was capable of repeating the glorious 1983 World Cup triumph, in England next year, if they began preparations straightaway. Kapil Dev, whose `devils' took the cricketing world by storm shocking the West Indies in the final at Lord's said ``if we could win the cup in 1983 beating the mighty West Indies, the present lot can repeat it if they start preparing right now for next year's World Cup.'

Satoshi Oide
Little-known Japanese Satoshi Oide became the first Japanese golfer to win on the Asian PGA's Omega Tour thwarting world number 14 Vijay Singh of Fiji and won the e record with a four under par 67, Fijian Vijay Singh also returning the same score but aggregated one over par 285 to be joint second with Gilberto Morales of Venezuala.

Joginder dies
Two-times Asian Games shot put champion, Joginder Singh, died of brain hemorrhage in the Capital this afternoon. He was 64 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His friend, Gurbachan Singh Randhawa -- his teammate at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta -- was at his side when the end came at 1.40 p.m. in the afternoon.

Inter-zonal camp
An inter-zone hockey camp and competition for sub-junior boys will be held at the SAI centre, Bangalore from May 6 to June 10. An Indian Hockey Federation release today directed the boys, selected from the four zones, to report for the camp on May 6.
