Nashik, May 4: Disgruntled Congress workers have decided to launch an agitation at the venue of the MPCC convention beginning here tomorrow. The agitation is being spearheaded by Corporator Asha Bhoge who has threatened to open up a can of worms against the exploits of Nashik Congress president Murlidhar Mane and joint secretary of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Jaiprakash Chhajed.
Asha Bhoge is the wife of Bhagwan Bhoge who resigned as general secretary of the party's city unit last week. He defected to the Samajwadi Party in protest against the alleged apathy of the high command towards the actions of Mane and Chhajed.
Asha is now poised to submit an 18-point memorandum to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, senior leader Sharad Pawar and leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Chhagan Bhujbal, against the two leaders. She has also accused MPCC President Ranjit Deshmukh of shielding the errant leaders.
Demanding an inquiry into the alleged activities of Mane andChhajed, she has offered to arrange meetings with aggrieved women party workers who have been victims of the duo's ``indecent behaviour''.
Asha has another damning allegation: when she approached the Panchavati Block Congress Committee to buy an entry pass for the convention and offered the official Rs 200 fee, she was asked to fork out Rs 30,000.
Claiming that passes have been distributed only to those who have ``shelled out money'', she alleges others have been denied participation at the convention.
In the memorandum, Asha has also outlined certain actions committed by the leaders which have harmed the party over the past 12 to 13 years. Accusing Mane and Chhajed of manipulation to ensure their continuance at the helm, Bhoge points out that the former has been city unit president for the last 13 years. She accuses both of financial irregularities, especially during elections.
The city Congress unit has gone bankrupt, with outstandings mounting to Rs 3 lakh. Even electricity and telephoneconnections have, on occasion, been disconnected for non-payment of bills. Mane has also misused the party vehicle for personal work, Asha alleges.
