Pawar's aide Meghe flays Sonia's coterie
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Nagpur, MAY 4: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha member from Wardha, Datta Meghe, today lashed out at the coterie surrounding Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for proving wrong information about Sharad Pawar. The timing of Meghe's statement is significant since Sonia is scheduled to attend the the state-level Congress convention at Nashik from tomorrow.Talking to newspersons here today, Meghe alleged that a group of Congressmen, particularly Arjun Singh, were campaigning against Pawar. The recent reshuffling of the party organisation and the appointment of Sudhir Sawant, a staunch anti-Pawar Congressman as one of the secretaries, have given sufficient evidence that a lobby within the Congress is working against Pawar to marginalise him. He advised Arjun Singh, who lost the Lok Sabha elections twice, to concentrate on Madhya Pradesh which would go to the polls soon, rather than involving himself in the anti-Pawar campaign. He said that there were a lot of competent Congressmen in the party from the State, likeAR Antulay, who could have been nominated for the post offered to Sawant. But a lobby within the party deliberately preferred Sawant to ridicule Pawar. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
