Bus touches live wire; 20 electrocutedMORADABAD: At least 20 people, including eight children and three women, were today electrocuted and three received serious burn injuries when their bus came in contact with a high-voltage live wire at a place, some 35-km from here. The incident took place when a bicycle kept on roof of the private bus with 70 passengers, on way to Sitamarhi in Bihar from Delhi, got entwined with a 11,000 kv high tension wire at Ganesh Mohalla. The conductor and driver of the bus fled the scene. The passengers were all Muslims who were going to Sitamarhi for Muharram.
Assam killings
GUWAHATI: Continuing ethnic clashes in Bodo-dominated lower Assam claimed two lives and injured four persons today, barely a day after 13 Santhals were killed by Bodo Liberation Tigers, official sources said.The sources said two Bodo youths were killed by Adivasis and their bodies bearing weapon marks were later recovered from Harapathar Bazaar in Kokrajhar district.Theadivasis also abducted a Bodo youth, a railway employee from Srirampur railway station in the same district today, the sources said.
Fishermen freed
CHENNAI: The Sri Lankan Navy today, in mid-sea, handed over to the Indian Coast Guard 21 fishermen who had been detained in the island-nation after setting sail in four boats from Mandapam in Tamil Nadu on March 16. The release of the fishermen followed Tamil Nadu government's plea to the Centre to press for their return, Fisheries Minister Jennifer Chandran has said.

CHENNAI: The three week-long Agninatchatiram, the peak of scorching summer, commenced today with the mercury soaring to 38.2 degree celsius at the Suburban Meenambakkam. However, the Nungambakkam observatory in the city recorded a maximum of 36.1 deg celsius. The minimum temperatures at Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam were as high as 27.1 nd 27.4 deg celsius.
