CHANDIGARH, May 4: With a view to stop misutilisation of underdeveloped land and encroachments on it in Phase III sectors of the City, the Chandigarh Administration has decided to soon start acquisition of more land in Sectors 48 to 60.While starting the process of acquiring land in Sectors 48 to 51 and developing it soon, the Administration also plans to involve HUDCO, a Government of India Undertaking, for land development. According to sources, while half the land in Sectors 48 and 49 has already been acquired, the process for acquiring the remaining land in these sectors would start soon in order to initiate overall development of the sector. Similarly, the process for acquisition of total land in Sectors 50 and 51 would also start soon.
While the UT Engineering Department has been entrusted with the task of developing land in Sectors 48 and 49, the Chandigarh Housing Board has been entrusted with the task of developing Sectors 50 and 51.
To stop misutilisation of land by developing it, the sources say, the Administration also plans to rope in HUDCO for land development.
This would be the first time an outside agency would be involved in land development in UT. This has been done since the Administration does not have enough resources for development of land at one go.
Most of the land in the Phase III sectors, is earmarked for cooperative housing societies, many of which have already been allotted land and housing construction is on.
