AIDS control society formed
The UT Administration has constituted the State AIDS Prevention and Control Society with Health Secretary N.S. Kang as its chairman. Other ex-officio members of the society include the Deputy Commissioner, Joint Finance Secretary, Directors of Health Services, social welfare departments, medical superintendents of hospitals and district family welfare officer.Free books for needy students
Free books and stationery will be distributed amongst needy but deserving students of schools in Panchkula district by the local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad. According to a statement issued here, State Minister for Forests and Education will be the chief guest on the occasion.
Pensioners meet Punjab FM
Representatives of government pensioners met Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh and sought early implementations of the recommendations of the Fourth Pay Commission. According to a statement, the pensioners have also demanded annual increase in pension, full reimbursement of expenses on chronic diseases and travel concessions.
IESL meeting from today
A meeting of the state executive committee of the Indian Ex-Services League (Punjab and Haryana) will be organised on May 5 and 6 to discuss the long pending cases of land allotment to 220 war widows by the Punjab Government. According to a release, other issues to be discussed include medical facilities for blind and bed-ridden ex-servicemen in rural areas, vocational training for re-settlement of ex-servivcemen or their dependents at sub-division level for self employment.
Super Bazar workers' demand
A deputation of Super Bazar Workers Union met UT Cooperation Secretary S.K. Gathwal and apprised him about the deteriorating condition of the Super Bazar. The union also demanded that Super Bazars be declared approved source for purchases by government departments.
Blind to resume stir
The Punjab branch of National Federation of the Blind has decided to resume its agitation from June 1 due to the failure of the Punjab Government to implement one per cent reservation in government jobs for the visually handicapped in the state.
Officiating Hindi dept chairman
The charge of the officiating chairman of the department of Hindi, Russian, and Central Asian Studies, Guru Ravi Das Chair, Director Sports, and the ICSSR complex has been handed over to Secretary to Vice-Chancellor.
