NEW DELHI, May 4: Even by the Capital's staggering murder rate, today was a particularly bad day. The north-west district witnessed two murders and five bodies were recovered from various parts ofthe city.Exactly a month after the bodies of a woman and child were found with their throats slit in the Jamali Qamali area near Qutab Minar, two unidentified male bodies were recovered from the same spot.
Both the bodies were spotted by a local chowkidar, Dharampal. At around 6.30 a.m., Dharampal was on one of his rounds of the park when he spotted a man's body hanging from a tree. ``He was a Nepali and had been hung with a plastic rope,'' said Dharampal, adding that ``he was around 5 feet in height and was wearing black trousers and a yellow vest''.
According to the police, there were no other external injury marks on the body. ``We cannot say whether the man died before he was hanged or after,'' said a police official.
After the police arrived and were being led to the spot, Dharampal noticed another body lying just next to Balban's tomb about a 100 yards from the first body. The deceased had been shot in the head. About 30 years of age, he was wearing black trousers and a white shirt. ``He had been shot at a very close range as is evident from the fact that carbon particles from the shot were found on the wound,'' a police official said.
A 21-year-old man, allegedly beaten up by his paramour's family, succumbed to his injuries on way to a hospital in Samaipur Badli last night.Uday Kumar had been working as a private tutor to a 15-year-old girl. On April 21, he reportedly eloped with her. Police teams had been sent to Bihar but were unable to trace the couple.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the girl's family found her in a hotel in the Begusarai town of Bihar. They reportedly returned with the couple last morning. According to the police, the girl's father, brother and other relatives shaved off Kumar's head and made him wear a garland of shoes. They beat him up with lathis and iron rods till he fell unconscious and then threw him out of the house. The police found Kumar's body at 6 p.m..
The Samaipur Badli police are on the lookout for the girl's father, Vedprakash, and her uncles, Mohan and Jaipal. In the second incident, a 22-year-old youth, Totu alias Viru, was stabbed to death last night in Jehangirpuri after an altercation with some residents of the locality. Both Totu and his friend Rajesh had come from Madipur as part of a baraat. According to the police, both the two had a fight with the suspects when they were returning after attending the marriage at H2 block of Jehangirpuri. The suspects reportedly did not like the way the two were behaving. After a heated argument, they stabbed Totu. The police have recorded Rajesh's statement. ``The preliminary investigation has not revealed the exact cause of the brawl but it seems the fight was over a trivial matter relating to the noise being created by the baraatis,'' said the duty officer at the Jahangirpuri police station. Totu's body was sent for postmortem this morning.
