NEW DELHI, May 4: The final votes at the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) executive committee meeting were cast in favour of continuing the ongoing boycott.``In view of the unreasonable attitude of the HRD minister, the DUTA executive feels compelled to continue the boycott in support of our legitimate demands for the implementation of UGC recommended pay scales,'' says Shri Ram Oberoi, president of DUTA.
``The majority resolution of the DUTA executive is binding on all and will be presented in the Court tomorrow,'' adds Oberoi.
A resolution to suspend the boycott for a month was moved by the BJP-backed National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF). Thirteen votes went in favour of the boycott and 10 against it. After heated debates, frequent adjournments and a barrage of charges against those who were trying to call off the boycott, the decision was finalised. The boycott decision has already been cleared by the general body in the beginning and no fresh meeting is being convened.
Meanwhile, the Progressive Teachers' Organisation (PTO) has demanded the resignation of Shri Ram Oberoi. PTO president J.P. Sharma and member of Academic Council S.P.S. Chauhan have demanded the immediate resignation from the DUTA president, ``for betraying the sentiments of the common teachers of the university by sabotaging the teachers' movement at a critical stage''.
