The whitelight of television
Simi Garewal was one of the first film actresses to make the transition from the big screen to the small screen. Seamlessly. The face that lit Conrad Rook's Siddharth and Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker, was also among the first people to present a show live on Doordarshan. Her first stint -- in the early '80s -- with the television production house Mudra Communications, had Simi introducing the Oscar awards.

The surprise event of last week was Madhuri Dixit's do at the Holiday Inn. Since this was the first time this Bollywood superstar threw a party, tongues started to wag in earnest. The rumour that she was going to announce her retirement was predominant. But Madhuri, radiant in a brown outfit, greeted her guests and quickly dispelled that notion.

Exclusive residental school opens at Pune
Tucked away in an elbow of the picturesque Sahyadris, the B K Birla Centre for Education in Ghaunje and Shirgaon villages in Pune district hopes to mould young minds in the cradle of learning. Focusing on all-round, person-centered development, the exclusive residential school began conducting admissions on April 25, throwing its portals open to 240 boys for the academic year commencing in June this year.

A new magazine called the Gobar Times was launched in the Capital on Sunday. An "ugly, bad" magazine, it will soon hit the market and tell you all about what is wrong with the environment. The target audience - children who think that "bad things are interesting".
