  National Games postponed
The first postponement of the fifth National Games has been announced. That is hardly surprising considering the number of times the previous Games have been postponed. The Games originally slated to be held in May will now be held from October 4 to 14 at Imphal, Manipur, according to Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi.
  Punjab Police win a thriller
Holders Punjab Police clinched the VK Rajan Memorial Trophy beating Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Chennai in a thrilling men's final of the 20th National Federation Cup Volleyball Tournament at the Carmel Stadium, Chalakudy yesterday. The policemen won 14-16, 15-10, 16-17, 15-4, 15-12.

Taylor intends to stay on
Mark Taylor intends staying on as Australia's Test cricket captain, according to reports yesterday. Taylor, 33, spoke of possibilities of standing down following last week's tour to India so that Australia would have the same skipper for both the Tests and One-Day Internationals.
No athletes for Kuala Lumpur
India will not have an athletics squad at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games. The announcement came from Suresh Kalmadi, who is not only the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), but also the president of the Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI).

Little Hemant Dhanvin Mehta stole the limelight by winning all his events in the boys under-6 category of the three-day 10th Bombay District roller skating championships, which concluded at the Fellowship School, yesterday.
Dutch aim to break jinx
