CBI probe is a witch-hunt, says Mayawati

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, May 5: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, who has been named as an accused in floating pump purchase scam, today claimed innocence and submitted before the Delhi High Court that the CBI has been victimising her as she was a "Dalit" and due to "political vendetta".

She said through her counsel before a division bench comprising Justice Devinder Gupta and Justice N G Nandi that no preliminary inquiry was conducted by CBI and alleged that the agency rushed through with the FIR. Counsel O P Khadaria said allegations made in a complaint filed by Rajiv Ratan Shah, principal secretary (home), on October 20 last year should have been verified before the registration of the case so that public functionaries were saved from vexatious and frivolous prosecution.
