Mumbai (SE), Thane emerge champions

MUMBAI, May 5: Thane beat Pune 32-23 in the girls' final of the 24th Maharastra State Sub-junior (under-13) basketball championship organised by Fr Agnel School of Vashi-Navi Mumbai played at the their courts.

In the boy's final, South-East Mumbai defeated Pune 66-29. Iqlagh Shaikh was the hero as he notched up 12 points. Shaikh was well supported by Mohammed Raiz and Sohail Khan as both scored 10 each. In the girls' final, Pune missed nine free throws while Thane missed four. In all Thane missed 16 while Pune missed 14.

Priyadashini Patil, Madhura Bodas and Rucha Martha of Thane were off-colour and their opponent failed to take the advantage. But Sonali Shatye came for the survival as she scored eight points in the second quarter. Mohammed Faizal of South-East Mumbai and Rucha Martathe of Thane were adjudged as best and were awarded the Bachoo Khan scholarship from Maharashtra State Basketball Association.

Boys' final: South-East 66 (Iqlagh Shaikh 12, Mohammad Raiz 10, Sohail Khan 10) bt Pune 29(Prasad Shinde 6, Sidharth Afle 6) Girlsfinal: Thane 32 (Sonali Shetye 8, Priyadarshini Patil 7) bt Pune 23 (Priyanka Sareen 8)

Semi-finals: Boys: Mumbai SE 58 (Mohammed Faisal 13, Shoeb Khan 14, Atahr Shaikh 12) bt Mumbai North 3; Pune 47 (Siddharth Khalate 12, Nikhil Kanitkar 7, Prasad Shinde 6) bt Mumbai Central 17 (Robin Rodrigues 11).

Girls: Pune 26 (Priyanka Sareen 7, Chaitrali Amrutkar 6) bt Mumbai Central 8 (Jyothi Rao 4); Thane 24 (Rucha Marathe 8, Sonali Shetye 6) bt Nagpur 6.
