VADODARA, May 5: Water samples of about 19 marriage halls in the city were declared contaminated by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Tuesday.An official spokesman described it as a routine exercise carried out during summers to prevent the outbreak of epidemic. He said water samples were taken from 48 marriage halls.Shri Dashalad Adalaj Modh Gyati Wadi, Baroda Hall, Shri Bhavsar Lokgacch Jain Sangh Kalyan Mandir, Vadodara Panjrapole Sanstha, Kacchia Pole Wadi, Kadwa Patidar Samaj, Umiabhavan, Lohana Seva Mandal, Ramjimandir -- Karelibaug, Bhailalbhai Amil Hall, Santram Mandir, Sankheda Dashalad Wadi, Premanand Sanskar Kendra Marriage Hall, Ekta Bhuvan Marriage Hall, Bhailal Marriage Hall, Alkapuri Club and Milan Kunj are the halls whose water samples have been declared contaminated.
Additional City Engineer B S Trapasia said the sources of contamination would be detected and rectified.
The civic authorities have also requested the citizens not to eat food sold in open.
DOGS KILLED: More than 150 dogs and pigs were killed during the last couple of days. According to official sources, they have been killed following complaints of dog bites and pig bites.
Municipal Commissioner Vilasini Ramachandran said the dogs and pigs were killed by contractors hired from South India.
Meanwhile, Meena Amin of Pashu Seva Kendra, a city-based voluntary organisation, has criticised the move and stated that instead of killing, the Corporation should drive away dogs out of the city.
