PUNE, May 5: Rajendra Kundalik Kalange, a police constable residing in Indrayani Nagar area of Bhosari, was on Sunday charged with harassing his wife over dowry demands and abetting her suicide.Kalange's wife, Simta, had committed suicide by setting herself on fire at their residence on April 26. The incident had initially passed as a case of accidental death in the records of the Bhosari police. However, Smita's father Balkrishna Jadhav lodged a fresh complaint against Kalange on Sunday.
According to the complaint, Kalange had married Smita on February 15, 1996. He allegedly started harassing Smita with his demand that her parents should pay Rs 50,000 as dowry, within a year after they married.
A frustrated Smita set herself on fire around 5 p.m. on April 26.
