  Now she eclipses the PM
Atithi devo bhava' -- most Indians are familiar with the concept. Would someone now care to provide an Italian translation?

Between them, Sonia Gandhi's media managers and the External Affairs Ministry have succeeded in amusing/irritating several high-ranking visitors at India's cost. Time-honoured procedures of diplomatic protocol have been torn up by courtiers more loyal than the queen herself.

The saga of the headless public sector

The hunt for Mr Clean
The telephone rang at 4 am. I wondered who could be desperate enough to ring up at that ghostly hour. It turned out to be Atal Behari Vajpayee. "I want you to do something for me," he said. "Something urgent." "What has happened to Pramod Mahajan, the procurer and disposer of all things,'' I asked. Vajpayee was patience personified.
