The saga of the headless public sector
For all its talk of having the public sector's best interests at heart, the government (not just the BJP, but all governments in recent years) appears to be doing its best to cripple these units. What else would you call its efforts to ensure that these public sector units (PSUs) do not have senior staff for months, and in some case years, to man critical operational areas.

Damaging findings
The Hanumantha Rao Committee report on the Tehri dam project has pulled up the Government for "according environmental clearance to the project before all necessary studies have been completed and the environmental viability of the project established." Among other things, it has also recommended to restructure its rehabilitation policy, which, if implemented, would cost an additional Rs 400 crore.

Really, Mr Kumar?
The transfers of income-tax officials by the Ministry of Finance just as the assessment of Jayalalitha's income-tax liabilities approaches completion is simply too much of a coincidence. Even more of a coincidence is the alleged hand in them of the AIADMK's man in this ministry without so much as a nod in the direction of the Union Finance Minister or even the Revenue Secretary.
