  Russia against sanctions
Indirectly opposing the US-led threat of economic sanctions against India for conducting nuclear tests on Monday, Russian President Boris Yeltsin has stated that Russia felt the only way to change India's policy was by diplomatic means. Yeltsin's Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov also ruled out joining any international sanctions against India.

National security is the latest theme song of the RSS and BJP. The Sangh Parivar is hoping to cash in on what it feels is the euphoria generated by yesterday's nuclear tests to enthuse its cadres. The parivar knows that strident public posturing on Ayodhya is not feasible while the BJP government is in power with coalition partners.

Land Act goes, Central staff to stay till 60
The Union Government has decided to scrap the Urban Land Ceiling Act (ULCA) and raise the retirement age of Central Government employees from 58 to 60. The Cabinet also approved a proposal from the I&B Ministry to restore the original provisions of the Prasar Bharati Act. A Bill to repeal the ULCA will be introduced in the Parliament's budget session.
US Indians hail nuke bombshell
Indians, across the United States, have expressed happiness over the three nuclear tests conducted by India, and extended their support to the BJP-led coalition government, saying a strong India would bring stability and prosperity to the sub-continent. Several Indian-American organistaions issued statements strongly backing the government.

Shell-shocked but hopeful: Europe's mixed Nuclear reaction
Cynicism, anger, frustration and even hope has peppered reactions across Europe and in disarmament corridors as people begin to digest the news of India's three successful nuclear tests conducted on Monday. While a lot of the criticism has been along the expected lines, there appears to be a new-found patience with India's position because the nuclear weapon states have gone too far.
India has dealt death blow to peace moves, says Sharif
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that India has killed Pakistan's proposal for creating a nuclear-free zone in South Asia by carrying out its nuclear tests on Monday. In a written statement, Sharif said, "The responsibility for delivering a death blow to efforts at global non-proliferation rests squarely with India."
